Pune has a population of 30 lacs and has more vehicles - about 13 lacs."

Link looks broken.

Mumbai has reasonably good public transport and commute distances are high. So people can give private vehicles a miss.

Completely opposite situation exists in Pune. Broken (or non-existant) public transport with not-so-long commute distances force people to own vechicles.

Agree with shashikant there a bit. But "not-so-long" commute distances? on that I dont agree. Earlier, I thought Pune is not rich enough to pour money into infrastucture, but now a days I think its just lack of strong will.
